Everyone gets through the door
That applies to the website as much as the building. Here is what we aim for, how we check it, and what we know is still wrong.
Our commitment
Vortex Martial Arts wants every family to be able to read about our classes, check the schedule, and book a visit, whatever device or assistive technology they use. We build this site to WCAG 2.2 Level AA, the international standard for web accessibility.
As of September 21, 2026, this site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Partially conformant means most of the site meets the standard and some parts do not yet. The specifics are listed below.
How we test
Accessibility here is checked automatically on every build, not once a year:
- Automated axe-core scans against every page on every build, covering WCAG 2.2 A and AA rules.
- Full-site crawls with AccessSpark, which checks every page for contrast, labelling, target size, heading structure and reading order, and reports against specific WCAG success criteria.
- Keyboard-only traversal of each page, checking that focus is visible and never trapped.
- Focus management tests that sample document.activeElement over 700ms after skip links and same-page anchors, because browsers can reset focus a frame or two late.
- Colour contrast checked against the design tokens rather than by eye, including text sitting over photographs and gradient scrims.
- Screen reader spot checks with VoiceOver on macOS and iOS.
Full-site crawls are run with AccessSpark, which checks every page rather than a sample and reports each finding against the specific WCAG success criterion it fails. Findings from those crawls are fixed and then added to the automated checks that run on every build, so the same fault cannot return quietly.
The most recent automated scan ran on September 24, 2026, covering 27 pages and finding no violations. Automated tools catch roughly a third of accessibility problems, so we treat a clean scan as a floor rather than a finish line.
Known issues
- Screen reader coverage: Testing has been done with VoiceOver on macOS and iOS. We have not yet tested with NVDA or JAWS on Windows.
Who this affects: Windows screen reader users. We expect the site to work, but we have not confirmed it ourselves, and saying otherwise would be a guess.
What we are doing: Test with NVDA on Windows and publish the results here.
- Booking and enquiry form: The form sends your details to Spark, the membership system the academy uses. The pages and emails Spark sends back are built by Spark, not by us, and we cannot test or fix them.
Who this affects: Anyone booking a tour or sending a message. The form itself is keyboard accessible and announces errors, and what happens after you submit is outside our control.
In the meantime: Call or text 512-688-0445 instead. It reaches the same people and nothing is lost by doing it that way.
What we are doing: Raise anything reported with Spark, and give the phone route equal weight everywhere the form appears.
- Manual testing depth: Automated checks run over every page on every build. Hands-on keyboard and screen reader testing has focused on the booking path, the schedule, and the main navigation rather than every page equally.
Who this affects: Anyone on a less-travelled page, such as an individual blog post, could hit something our automated checks do not catch.
What we are doing: Widen manual testing page by page, starting with whichever pages get the most traffic.
